Protecting Email Backups — One of your Company’s Most Valuable Assets

Posted on October 30, 2014 in Virtual Private Server by Jon Powers

Let’s say you have a small business and maintain about 30 to 100 emails on your domain. It’s a safe guess that you are probably running a small Microsoft Exchange server. Whether it’s the 2007, 2010 or 2013 version, you need to keep your emails for some period of time for your company's records.

How are you backing that server up and meeting your retention needs?

Not All Email Backups are Created Equal

Don’t a lot of hosting providers offer backups? On the surface, the answer is, “Yes.” But consider carefully:

  1. Can your current provider restore your individual Exchange email mailboxes?
  2. Can your current provider restore an individual database from Exchange and mount that directly to your production Exchange server?
  3. Can your current provider restore individual emails and then send them out if they were accidentally deleted?

Big Benefits with Virtual Systems Virtual Private Server + Exchange Backups

When you take advantage of a virtualized Exchange server through Virtual Systems’ virtual private server offering, you get the added benefit of backups on that Exchange server.

Virtual Systems uses the most trusted name in VM backups, Veeam Backup and Replication, to backup your virtual Exchange server. In a VMware environment, Virtual Systems can restore individual Exchange databases back to the server, restore individual mailboxes, restore individual email and send it to the appropriate mailbox — even restore the entire virtual machine.
